Politicians cannot implement gerrymandered map without voter approval
The Missouri Secretary of State’s Office signature verification report today confirms that a sufficient number of signatures were collected, in every required congressional district, to put a referendum on the November ballot giving Missouri voters the final say in the state legislature’s illegally gerrymandered congressional district map.
In a petition drive spearheaded by People Not Politicians Missouri, more than 300,000 signatures were collected statewide to give voters their right to challenge the unprecedented, unconstitutional mid-census redistricting.
Richard von Glahn of People Not Politicians Missouri issued the following statement in response to the SOS report:
“Today’s confirmation is a decisive victory for democracy and for the people of Missouri. Volunteers across the state didn’t just meet the bar, they shattered it, sending a clear message that voters will not stand for politicians rigging the rules mid-game. HB1 must be stopped in its tracks. And in November, Missourians will make the final call. This is what democracy looks like: people, not politicians, deciding who represents them.”
