Jefferson City, Mo. — Today the Senate voted to pass Governor Mike Kehoe’s illegal, mid-decade gerrymander.
The following statement should be attributed to People NOT Politicians spokesperson Elsa Rainey:
“Today, the Missouri Senate chose to ignore overwhelming bipartisan opposition and the voices of thousands of Missourians who rallied at the Capitol, standing united against this illegal gerrymandering scheme and direct attack on majority rule.
“This is nothing less than an unconstitutional power grab — a blatant attempt to rig the 2026 elections before a single vote is cast. It violates Missouri law, slices apart communities, and strikes at the core of our democratic system.
“While politicians scheme behind closed doors, People Not Politicians is taking action. Today, we will file a referendum with the Secretary of State’s office to put this deeply flawed map before Missouri voters. We now have 90 days to gather 116,000 signatures — and given the groundswell of outrage across the state, we are confident the people will rise to meet this moment.
“This fight is not over. Missouri voters — not politicians — will have the final say.”
